docendo discimus

After leaving school and even university, I did discover the above truth.

INDEED, “by TEACHING we learn!” When I started teaching/training staff about auditing during the implementation of ISO-9000 I noted that the more frequently I was teaching, the better I kept myself up-to-date on many details… THIS proved even more significant when I started to teach young cadets and old seafarers… There is a need to understand your topic in depth and to be able to research additional information to answer detailed and in depth questions of your audience competently. (I DO want to provide quality!)

THUS I have built and expanded my knowledge over the years in depth and breadth…

WANT to learn/understand a subject??? TEACH it! Tutoring is most useful FOR the tutor themselves! While there are many other proverbs that are rooted in truth, this is still an important one to me.

While we are made to think that by the time we leave school the dredful stuying and learning will end, the OPPOSITE is true, we start learning more and I expect to continue learning until my last breath… (I often joke with me my students: “… and then, I guess I will earn about dying, how to be dead and what to do when you have eternity at your disposal.” Don’t expect me to share THAT knowledge with you soon and surely NOT here. LOL)
